EDLD 5333 Leadership for Accountability

Campus Action Plan
S.M.A.R.T. Goal (long range,3-5 years):
Golden Rule goal is to have 90% in Science by 2017-2018.
S.M.A.R.T. Objective (What we can accomplish in one school year):
Science objective would be to accomplish 80% by the following school year 2013-2014.  We need to improve 7%; focus population is Hispanic.

Formative Evaluation
1.  Staff development
Instructional strategies are more effective at increasing retention rates among students. Note taking, summarizing, and problem solving are some of Marzano’s most effective instructional strategies.  This session will provide participants with the tools to introduce interactive journaling that will enhance students understanding of the science concepts being studied through reading and writing.

Estimated cost: $1000.00
Follow-up walkthroughs to observe science instruction, note taking, summarizing, and problem solving; lesson plans including departmental planning meetings.
2. Science Technology
STEPS is an opportunity to make a connection between what happens in the classroom and what happens in the world outside.  People working in the Science and Technology area of employment show primary school children, what they do in the real world and bring the world outside the classroom to life.

Focused assessment of SC1                 This approach uses activities from the QCA Scheme of Work to focus assessment on specific aspects of scientific inquiry (SC1). It has been based on a strategy first devised by Bristol LEA then developed by the Improving Science Together Project. Classroom and teaching resources were developed, along with information and tips on how to use focused assessment in the classroom.

An interactive whiteboard system is comprised of many separate components from many companies, but when integrated into a whole system, it becomes a powerful instructional tool in the hands of a trained teacher. The first section of this course will provide a brief overview of different digital whiteboard systems and current research of their effectiveness in the classroom.
This course will introduce the transformative possibilities that interactive whiteboard systems can have on our science curriculum.
Teachers who attend the training will share the gathered information with the remaining staff
Present teachers with the information
Discussion and ask questions

8:00am-11:30am
Lunch Break

11:30 - 12:30
The last section will show you how to integrate these skills into several science lessons which then you will apply this knowledge to create a lesson of your own.
Designed for elementary and secondary schools of any size, with adaptation and application for community, social service, and faith community.

This course features over 45 videos comprising over five hours of core video-based training, allowing you to see a credentialed teacher/ certified trainer actually using an interactive whiteboard system. The skills and their integration into science instruction covered in this course are designed to be transferable to any hardware or software platform.

Revised Action Research Wk. 4

Revised Action Research:

School Vision:    “When parents are involved in their children's education at school and home, the results show. And when parents are involved in school, children go farther in school and the schools they go to are better."

Goal:   More parent involvement within the school.
